After a long day out in the mountains, hoping to find ptarmigans to later photograph alongside the moon, the moment to try and create magic had finally arrived. Having moved around the area all day, I had a good idea of where the ptarmigans were staying, and I knew roughly which spots might allow me to align them with the moon, which on this day began its journey across the sky just before sunset. Finding a ptarmigan resting so peacefully in the grass, right in a spot where it was possible to position myself to include the moon, was truly a stroke of luck. Despite thorough and well-executed preparation, this also requires a great deal of luck. Moments like this are not something you experience often.
