Welcome to my photo hide experiences in the heart of Lapland. Just beyond my home in the forest of scenic Tjautjasjaure, you’ll find a world of wildlife waiting to be discovered – from birds, red squirrels and mountain hares, to foxes and even golden eagles.
The main bird hide is located right next to my basecamp and offers year-round opportunities to photograph birds and mammals from close range. Equipped with five shooting windows and sturdy gimbal heads, it’s designed for comfort and creativity. For those staying longer, there’s a cozy cabin just steps away – with a sauna, access to a nearby lake, and the chance to paddle a kayak under the midnight sun or hike into the surrounding low mountain landscape.
Those low fells nearby offer more than views – they’re also home to moose, reindeer, capercaillie and ptarmigan, all of which may appear along the trail for those with patience and a sharp eye.
As the nights grow darker in autumn, you may even witness the northern lights dancing right outside the cabin door.
For the more adventurous, a mobile hide across the lake offers the chance to photograph red fox and golden eagle. Boat transport is included, followed by a short 1 km walk to reach the hide. It’s small, but fits two people – perfect for a quiet day of waiting in the wild.
Guests are also welcome to roam the nearby forest trails to capture wildlife in a more free-roaming, spontaneous way.
